Calling on Fanboys, Fandroids and Crackberries: lighten up!

Calling on Fanboys, Fandroids and Crackberries: lighten up!

The #boycottapple  rage shows no sign of abating on G+. It’s become a bore. Do stop, pretty please.

Here to amuse, is a survey by Hunch blog on the differences between iOS and Android users. I must say it’s spot on: I do prefer a good Malbec to a Shiraz 😉

Warning: Anyone taking the survey/comic seriously is in dire danger of becoming a bore (or worse, a boor).

  1. Malbec >> Shiraz.

    /picks a side

  2. Rajini Rao says:

    Peter Smalley , cheers!

  3. Chad Haney says:

I swear we teased each other about this eons ago (Android vs. iPhone). Hmm, let me wade through my posts.

  4. Nick Austin says:

Rajini Rao The fight against abusive companies can be boring at times, but it is still important.

  5. Chad Haney says:

It’s more boring when my memory is wrong and reveals no one commented on my post.

  6. Rajini Rao says:

    ROFL, Chad Haney !

  7. Isn’t the point of boycott to ignore something? 😉

  8. Rajini Rao says:

    I deserve 40 lashes with a wet noodle 😦

    Chad Haney

  9. Chad Haney says:

My sentiments about my boring post memory.

    Oh No! We Suck Again!

  10. Rajini Rao says:

Excellent and non-boring point, Oleg Mihailik ! A bottle of Malbec to you. Or Shiraz. Or both.

  11. rudy s says:

I wrote a small piece and posted it public my thoughts on this. Basically I’m flabbergasted that people have such a strong alliance for consumer products.

People don’t call their mother with same the frequency they check in on company _______’s new product announcements and press releases. It’s absurd. I’d weep in sorrow if it wasn’t so utterly pathetic.

  12. Rajini Rao says:

Well said, rodolfo sanchez . I will call my mother today!

    Link to your post?

  13. I should stand shoulder to shoulder with Martin Geoffrey Lake and defend my beliefs. 1267×45=57015. Say what you like, it may be dull, it may be boring. But it’s the truth, 57015 I am telling you!

  14. Rajini Rao says:

Martin Geoffrey Lake , successful people make their point, have their say, and move on to do the things that bring them success. Boring people don’t know when to stop. They can get caught in an endless replay (think G+ reshares!).

  15. Chad Haney says:

FYI, boring people are on FB, not G+.

  16. Rajini Rao says:

Oleg Mihailik , how tall are you? I may need to bring out my high heels to stand shoulder to shoulder with you and Martin Geoffrey Lake 🙂

  17. Chad Haney says:

Whew, not the butt kicking boots.

  18. Rajini Rao says:

mary Zeman found me something better, Chad Haney : http://goo.gl/BP2nC

  19. Doug Chinn says:

What interests me is how few people that have these strong feelings for “brand x” actually have any experience with the other brands. I indulge in fashion with my phones, I change them about once a year (the environment I work in makes that almost mandatory) and as a result I’ve tried a few including Andriod, Blackberry and iPhone. It’s all about what suits the individual. My current phone is an iPhone, and the next will be….an iPhone. It suits me, I have no desire to influence anyone else’s choices.

  20. I noticed how you didn’t try Windows Phone, even most liberal tolerance has its limits.

  21. Doug Chinn says:

Oleg Mihailik: Nicely spotted, I’ve not owned one but one of my workmates does and as a result I have had plenty of opportunities to play with it and test it out, his works fine up to a point, but my iPhone is slicker and a bit quicker. I freely admit I should give the Windows phone a better chance but I have found a product that suits me. Roll on iPhone 5.

  22. Thomas Jones says:

It used to be, the reason I carried an Android rather than an iPhone was you couldn’t get LTE iPhones. As horrible as my Samsung is, it’s blazingly-fast when compared to trying to do heavy data usage on an iPhone. I’ve got better things to do than wait for a web page to render or an attachment to download.

At this point? Well, no one likes a bully. I don’t think even most of the people that were fans of Apple’s old 1984 commercial could be fans of the modern Apple.

  23. Rajini Rao says:

Thomas Jones , I wonder who is the bully on G+? All I see in my stream is excessive spewing of hate and one sided opinion. I don’t intend this post to become a debate on which mega corporation can claim moral righteousness. Just to point out that the atmosphere here is taking on the feel of a school yard bully. Maybe it’s time to drop the subject? What do you think?

  24. There are many angry people here Rajini Rao all fight for what? Which is better iphone or …….  Kinda lame really. (watch the hate flow on my posts now :)))  Time is to chill a little.

  25. Rajini Rao says:

Well said, Cheryl Ann MacDonald .

  26. Chad Haney says:

RE the OP, I’m in the wrong column in the Hunch blog.

  27. Rajini Rao says:

    Exactly, Chad Haney 🙂

    So! You like Malbec?

  28. Let’s tell em all to get out of the “fight/flight” mode. Geez. And you have a good rest of the day!  Where is the “real” trouble maker Chad Haney?   (Hi Chad)

  29. Chad Haney says:

On the rare occasion I drink wine, it’s usually a Northern Cal Pinot Noir or German Riesling.  I’m a self proclaimed beer snob. I didn’t see that in either column.

Good day to you Cheryl Ann MacDonald what trouble maker are you talking about. I have no idea.

  30. Chad Haney says:

I’m surprised Mahesh Sreekandath hasn’t chimed in about Symbian OS.

  31. Rajini Rao says:

Beer has been left out of the survey. So have Windows phones. Coincidence? 😀

  32. Must have been another Chad Haney (I need to do some memory work, but I like a not to dry white.. and am a beer snob too) Just to keep on topic.

  33. Chad Haney says:

They mention Windows Phones vs. Blackberry&Palm at the very bottom. Alas, no beer. I don’t know if Palm would include WebOS which I think doesn’t belong with Blackberry (old vs. very new).

  34. Rajini Rao says:

Red or white. Now that’s an argument worth having 😉

  35. Headaches with Red…..white for me. AND I will stand my ground 🙂  Agree Raj

  36. Chad Haney says:

My sister says I’m ABC, Anything But Chardonnay. What was the topic again?

  37. Rajini Rao says:

I’ve heard of allergic reactions to red 😦

I use the resveratrol as an official excuse to imbibe.

  38. Rajini Rao says:

The topic was to lighten up…so I guess a good, dry white is appropriate.

  39. I wonder what would happen if I took the resveratrol with a glass of dry white…..hmm. Just to lighten up and relax a little folks (this is just google +….) Ooops was that too serious?

  40. Chad Haney says:

A little tidbit from my grad school days. We have to throw in some science you know. Dr. Pezzuto was in the same building and most of the pharmacognosy guys were down the hall from me.

The University of Illinois researchers originally isolated resveratrol from a crude extract of the roots of a Peruvian tree, one of thousands of plant extracts they are screening for cancer-fighting potential under a grant from the National Cancer Institute. Dr. John M. Pezzuto, who oversees the research at the university’s College of Pharmacy, said that resveratrol was a chemical defense agent that the plant produced in response to environmental stress, especially fungal infections.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8985016

  41. Rajini Rao says:

Roots of a Peruvian tree? I did not know that. Thanks for the links, Chad Haney . Isn’t resveratrol in that infographic of yours..snake oil or something?

Cheryl Ann MacDonald , at least the tablets have a chance of giving you an effective dose. I would have to drink gallons of the stuff, and then I might get a cop like the one in Chad’s intoxicating video: http://goo.gl/MMz3X

  42. Interesting there is also implications with aging. Wondering …..if this one is going anywhere in Science. http://goo.gl/jOnHj  To use of course with the OS or phone of your choice.

  43. Chad Haney says:

Yes, Rajini Rao it’s at the bottom http://goo.gl/9rIi

My win for today. I found some science that you didn’t know. I’m heading home. Catch up with you all later.

  44. Rajini Rao says:

There’s a huge literature investigating resveratrol and longevity, Cheryl Ann MacDonald . But still no definite evidence. Huge money involved: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/22/science/22longevity.html

There is the analogy of longevity with battery life 😉

  45. Chad Haney says:

Yes, but the only link, is a 2008 review article. We both know 4 years is an eternity these days, with that type of research.

  46. Thanks Rajini Rao. There is a huge exhibit in Balboa Park on aging and they discussed this research in detail. At the end of the lecture series…they stated exactly your point.

  47. I love my iPod Touch 4G.  :^D  That said, I hope to buy an Android tablet in the next year or so.

  48. Not the point of the post David Lazarus ?????

  49. Cheryl Ann MacDonald – I think you’re missing the point.  My point is that I’m for technology and not all that biased when it comes to OS’s for portable devices (read:  tablets, smart phones, etc.)

I’m not blasting Android because I like Apple.  Worse yet, I’m not blasting one of those merely because it’s the popular thing to do.  I like technology and I would be perfectly happy owning both an iPod Touch (and possible future iPad) as well as an Android tablet.

Need I respond to humor with humor?  Can I not have a serious response?  Where’s my crime?

  50. Oh yes lets troll the post again David Lazarus …that is your oooh crime.  Lighten Up!

  51. Let’s hear from the OP.  Rajini Rao – Do you feel like I am trolling this post and deliberately derailing the topic?  If so, why?  If not, why not?

    Thanks.

  52. The thread is getting boring again David Lazarus the topic if you read the thread is to chill out, lighten up….no need to hear from Raj again. It only takes reading the post.

  53. Chad Haney says:

    Seriously, Suraj? Hi.

  54. OMG Chad Haney I just saw you mentioned Pezzuto. He’s here. He’s the Dean here. LOL.

  55. Chad Haney says:

LOL back at you Buddhini Samarasinghe If you know him, ask him about Norm Farnsworth.

  56. I don’t really see him much his lab is not where I am at. He occasionally ‘shows face’ at Faculty Meetings and stuff. Small world 😛

  57. Chad Haney says:

No more pandering or I’ll put in a word with Pezzuto.

  58. Hey! No fair, you can’t be a tattle-tale like that. Rajini Rao help! See how mean Chad is being? 😀

  59. Jeremy Hidy says:

Thanks for turning me on to #boycottapple.  I didn’t realize that people were catching on to the hypocrisy that is apple.

  60. Rajini Rao says:

Sorry, all, I fell asleep. Not because of your comments, but because I’m still jet lagged. Sorry I missed the famiiy squabbles 😛

I hear you David Lazarus , I love technology too 🙂 Cheryl was being pre-emptively protective in case trolls come around..but everyone is so polite.

Buddhini Samarasinghe , for a moment I thought you said Pezzuto was here on G+. I suffered a pang of horror at the thought that any of my Dean’s saw my posts. Of course, Allison Sekuler is a Dean, so I feel somewhat vindicated.

  61. Sorry I was too excited to type clearly. I meant he’s the dean at the uni here. Chad is not allowed to use that against me though!

  62. Rajini Rao says:

Coffee at 4 am tasted great! I have to blame the boys….falling asleep at 7 pm, before dinner. What was I to do? I’m counting on my G+ friends to keep me awake this evening. Feisal Kamil . I’ll take care of Chad Haney , no worries Buddhini Samarasinghe 🙂

  63. And with that it’s time for me to go to sleep 😛

  64. Rajini Rao says:

    Happy dreams, Buddhini Samarasinghe !

  65. Both are crap. Carrier pigeons were perfectly adequate. 🙂  Wait a minute, smoke signals were actually perfect…

  66. Rajini Rao says:

Hehe, Michelle Beissel . We need a strong dose of your no-nonsense philosophy to get this G+ house in order.

P.S. It felt so good to uncircle the first person I saw posting more hate this morning. Should have done this long ago.

  67. Uncircling folks who sap your emotional/mental energy is a sublime experience everybody needs to experience. 🙂

  68. Chad Haney says:

Rajini Rao I’m looking forward to scared of my punishment for teasing Buddhini Samarasinghe .

Michelle Beissel what about  Morse code with mirrors?

  69. If the mirror is a cuboid, I envision trouble, Chad Haney

  70. Chad Haney says:

Actually, that would be fun. You could spin it around like a disco light.

Saturday Night Fever – Night Fever (Bee Gees)

  71. It is funny.  Users do tend to take things more personally than they probably should.  However, there is some seriousness to the implications of the shameful politics and bad legal precedent being set.. and I’m all for boycotting as it gives power to the people (and saves them money too!)

  72. Thanks for tagging Chad Haney !! The inference of the survey made little sense to me, may be because i use a Droid and a Symbian.

  73. Chad Haney says:

Mahesh Sreekandath I thought only Nokia with Symbian. You mean you have a Motorola Droid now too?

  74. LOL Chad Haney ! Oh yes, Nokia is brought from abroad and hence AT&T tells me that it cannot have data access in the US so I got a droid pro from VZ, for all practical purposes Nokia is mainly used as a camera!
