INTERIOR DNA DESIGNS.

INTERIOR DNA DESIGNS. Imagine having a DNA fingerprint on your walls. Not the jammy hand print from your five year old, but your unique genetic signature, custom framed as art.

DNA11 is a company founded by a molecular geneticist and a web designer. Send them a cheek swab and they will extract your DNA, amplify it with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), separate the strands by gel electrophoresis and print the individualized banding pattern on a canvas frame. You can also opt for a thumb print (assuming it is not already on file with a law enforcement agency), or frame a steamy kiss.

The company hastens to note that the portraits do not reveal any personal secrets and that your sample is destroyed to preserve privacy. So you don’t need to worry about surprise paternity suits in the future 😉

    That actually looks pretty cool.

  2. Unknown's avatar John R says:

    Wow, science can be art!

  3. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

John Ryce , absolutely! I try to showcase the artistic side of science on my posts (mixed in with hard core stuff) 🙂

  4. Unknown's avatar Jim Carver says:

Very weird. You could also layer the Star Trek bio-monitors on that and get a really weird effect, in 3D maybe. Coming to your theatre soon.

  5. Unknown's avatar Jun C says:

Ha! At first, I thought you were going to say, “Not the kind you’d find in dirty motels, but…”

    Anyways, that is pretty cool!

  6. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Jun C , motel extracts could spell more trouble than paternity suits 🙂

  7. Very cool, what about cost?

  8. Unknown's avatar Vinod Pandey says:

Welcome to DNA house, please wait in  DNA living room, boss is coming in few moments from DNA bed room, till then you can have cup of tea from DNA canteen, and there is DNA wash room. enjoy DNA 🙂

  9. Unknown's avatar Jim Carver says:

Vinod Pandey And don’t forget to take your DNA based supplements… based on your DNA!

  10. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Barry Ellenburg , pricey! Starting at $199, going up to $400 and beyond 😦

  11. Shut up and take my money….lol. seriously that isn’t too bad

  12. Unknown's avatar Vinod Pandey says:

    oh sure sir;) Jim Carver

  13. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Really, Barry Ellenburg ? It’s exorbitant considering that we run DNA on gels all the time (honestly, who’s to know if the DNA is yours or not?). Printing and canvas costs shouldn’t be much. Of course, they need to make a profit 🙂

  14. Yes, I suppose some sort of authenticity would be in order. And the 199 range is what I was thinking 🙂

  15. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Jim Carver , I’ve seen DNA supplements in shampoos! 🙂

  16. Unknown's avatar Jim Carver says:

Rajini Rao Ah yes, but this will be targeted for just you, for maximum absorption! I can see it now…:) actually I shouldn’t smile, some of that is going to be strange.

  17. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

The funny thing was that the DNA in the shampoo was extracted from salmon sperm..a standard source of junk/carrier DNA we buy in bulk for the lab 🙂 I hope no one’s hair turned orange.

  18. Unknown's avatar Jim Carver says:

haha! That’s funny, since my Mom had a beauty shop. They will put just about anything in anything to make people think it’s good, when all it is is crap they picked up for cheap.

Like the other day I was out of commercial de-clor for my fish and needed a little, so I go to the store and the stuff they were selling had aloe vera in it.

I’ve never seen one damn fish in my life that needed aloe vera! 🙂 Or am I just old-fashioned?

  19. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

LOL, the fish needed to soften those scales! Not old fashioned, just common sensical.

  20. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

How much of your DNA have you thrown away? 😉

It could have been preserved as art!

  21. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

If Feisal Kamil is a work of art, can I have him for my wall? 🙂

  22. Unknown's avatar Jim Carver says:

Yes, would he be worthy of public display disgrace?

  23. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

There are no two Feisal Kamil . I’m not saying whether is good or bad 😉

  24. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Reminds me of that line from Beverly Hills Cop. Eddie Murphy claimed he had twin daughters: Monique and Unique.

  25. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Well, if Feisal is Unique, then my question is where (and who) is Monique??

  26. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

I was just going to say that too, Feisal Kamil . Although I wondered if I had been blocked! O_O

  27. It was that there were “seven sisters of Ursula” and each of us has the genetic traits of 1 of the 7…

  28. good one nice designs

  29. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Agree, Bradford Bright , on the narcissistic side, but unusual.

  30. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Also, Geek Chic Rashid Moore 🙂

  31. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

    Haha, unDNiAbly Decor-ative!

  32. Unknown's avatar Jason Zhang says:

i have lots of DNA fingerprints of beans

  33. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

When do we open for business, Rashid Moore ? 🙂

  34. If they’re doing PCR, what difference does it make if it’s your DNA? I mean they’d technically use the same primers for everyone, and give or take a few base pairs every image they produce must look the same. I also should comment that, though it adds a cool ~artistic effect, I’m not sure what’s happening with the smearing in a few of those lanes; looks like some sample mishandling/DNA fragmentation ;P

  35. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Tsk, on the smearing José P. Llongueras . I bet you know someone who would ask you to redo those samples? 😉

I’m not sure what the banding pattern represents, exactly. If it was RFLP, then it should detect variations between individuals, no? I should have watched more of those forensic TV shows.

  36. Oh yes I do! And you’re totally right, I just figured for convenience they’d use ITS or something conserved and easy to amplify. I feel we could amplify different regions ourselves, run/image the gel, and blow it up at kinkos for less than even half their price. Now I’m tempted ;]

  37. Unknown's avatar Rajini Rao says:

Now, there’s a way to raise funds…possibly to attend junkets conferences in say, Switzerland? 😉

  38. The personal signatures of your very nature all around the house…

A strong way to own and personalize your property, even though they are removable but still produce the impact as long as they are in place.

    Nice sharing..:)
