They are! Fireflies.
Reminds me of some of my favorite Hayao Miyazaki films 🙂 Magical.
There is also the special joy in being a kid and scooping one up inside your hand and peering at it. Luckily, fireflies are so slow, they seem to be made for little hands to catch and release!
I used to fill jars with them at night as a child. Real magic lanterns to light one’s way through a forest…

Oh lovely..it’s been a very long time since I saw it! It would be fun to watch some of his masterpieces again.
