TRANSPARENT COLOURFUL ANTS
Apparently, ants have a clear coloured abdomen โ something that photographer Mohamed Babu and his wife discovered one day when they noticed a โwhite antโ that was crawling along their counter. It turns out, the ant had just consumed a drop of milk that was left on the counter, turning his lower half white. The photographer set up a variety of coloured water pools and patiently waited until the ants consumed the liquid to show their coloured abdomens.

Thanks for passing them around with source. In summer I the pictures went around for the first time without attribution, so I had to ask Bug Girl whether they were real.
I love it! … Will this work with children?
Ralf Muschall , I found the news article that reported on this in the summer and it has a little bit more info on how the photographer captured this:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2022765/The-ants-multi-coloured-abdomens-exactly-theyve-eating.html
Lesley Scott , you may find this interesting too..the colored sugar drop is placed on paraffin paper so the drop holds its shape!
Jimmy Shepard In children, the body wall is too thick for visible light to get through. You might try substances that emit radiation with better penetration rates (available from Japan), but then the effect would not be visible with the bare eye.
LOL, I hasten to point out that both Jimmy Shepard and Ralf Muschall are jesting ๐
Yes Rajini Rao Besides if it won’t make them behave it wouldn’t help me anyway!
Sugar will only increase their ANTics, Jimmy Shepard ๐
Is that WONDERFUL observation or What??!!!!!!!
If you want to impress me, reproduce the effect in ELEPH ANTS
Marian Wirth , that would be deviANT art ๐
Rajini Rao Not to say rampANT …
it’s amazing. A living pANTone colour chart ๐
awesome ๐
Wow, never knew….
Wonder how long the color stays, it is nice.
Some parts of the countries even here in U.S.A insects but not all are edible as protiens and sometimes as delicacies, I hope I spell it right? Stick a toothpick in those colorful ants freeze them and out comes jell-o ants popsicle pops.
excellent photo work…great idea!!:)
Yvette Laurry ๐ I suspect the jell-o popsicle ants would burn and sting! You see, the Latin word for ant is Formica because formic acid used to be made by distilling ant bodies. It’s also found in bee stings and other insect bites. I think these cute ants are safe from us Googlers!
Marian Wirth Why so humble? One should start at least with twelevANTs, or even better with gigANTS right from the beginning.
excellent!
nice art
Very cool pictures
LOVELY ! show us more bugs!
nice ๐ ๐
I suppose in a hive it’s always good to know that your peers aren’t holding out something good to eat from you. I’m glad that’s not so in humans as I’d hate people to see how much cake I consume ๐
