I am the autumnal sun , Henry David Thoreau
I am the autumnal sun,
With autumn gales my race is run;
When will the hazel put forth its flowers,
Or the grape ripen under my bowers?
When will the harvest or the hunter’s moon
Turn my midnight into mid-noon?
I am all sere and yellow,
And to my core mellow.
The mast is dropping within my woods,
The winter is lurking within my moods,
And the rustling of the withered leaf
Is the constant music of my grief.
Intense..like it very very much…thanks Rajini Rao …smile
Last of the flowers in my garden, Kershaw Rustomji . Waiting for the hard frost to hit.
Rajini Rao They are beautiful.. i miss the fields and the gardens…gave me a touch of it …and one day i will read your post here…saying…here comes the first flower …smiling
A scientist who posts Thoreau. You’re wonderful!
Nice photos Rajini Rao and a nice garden you have there
Thanks! 🙂
Poems, flowers, bees, nature, the sun,…you’re probably a romantic person too. Rajini Rao . Oh, and don’t forget classic rock either! 🙂
Hah, Tom Lee , all of the above but not romantic in the least. Lady scientists are level headed and wisely pragmatic 🙂
Rajini Rao So lady scientists don’t feel like they’re missing something that could warm their hearts once in a while? Are you sure they are all like that? Just curious. Hmm…
Tom Lee , Shakespeare was likely thinking of the lady scientist when he said, “O! for a muse of fire, that would ascend the brightest heaven of invention.” 🙂
Rajini Rao Nice. Now bringing Shakes into the picture. So my curiosity is answered. That muse of fire does exist after all. Hehe.
More from Rilke:
“Command the fruits to swell on tree and vine;
grant them a few more warm transparent days,
urge them on to fullfillment then, and press
the final sweetness into the heavy wine.”
oh yeah…!
Lovely, Peying, thank you!
Beautiful post Rajni, made me scribble this: As the leaves fall and the music rises, the sun is ready to set…..and set to rise again!
