I am the autumnal sun , Henry David Thoreau

I am the autumnal sun , Henry David Thoreau

I am the autumnal sun,

With autumn gales my race is run;

When will the hazel put forth its flowers,

Or the grape ripen under my bowers?

When will the harvest or the hunter’s moon

Turn my midnight into mid-noon?

I am all sere and yellow,

And to my core mellow.

The mast is dropping within my woods,

The winter is lurking within my moods,

And the rustling of the withered leaf

Is the constant music of my grief.

  4. Sherri Vance says:

    A scientist who posts Thoreau. You’re wonderful!

  5. Nice photos Rajini Rao and a nice garden you have there

  6. Tom Lee says:

    Poems, flowers, bees, nature, the sun,…you’re probably a romantic person too. Rajini Rao . Oh, and don’t forget classic rock either! 🙂

  7. Rajini Rao says:

    Hah, Tom Lee , all of the above but not romantic in the least. Lady scientists are level headed and wisely pragmatic 🙂

  8. Tom Lee says:

    Rajini Rao So lady scientists don’t feel like they’re missing something that could warm their hearts once in a while? Are you sure they are all like that? Just curious. Hmm…

  9. Rajini Rao says:

    Tom Lee , Shakespeare was likely thinking of the lady scientist when he said, “O! for a muse of fire, that would ascend the brightest heaven of invention.” 🙂

  10. Tom Lee says:

    Rajini Rao Nice. Now bringing Shakes into the picture. So my curiosity is answered. That muse of fire does exist after all. Hehe.

  11. Peying Fong says:

    More from Rilke:

    “Command the fruits to swell on tree and vine;

    grant them a few more warm transparent days,

    urge them on to fullfillment then, and press

    the final sweetness into the heavy wine.”

    oh yeah…!

  12. Rajini Rao says:

    Lovely, Peying, thank you!

  13. Beautiful post Rajni, made me scribble this: As the leaves fall and the music rises, the sun is ready to set…..and set to rise again!
